A Milestone for Women in Malayalam Cinema

Kochi: In a groundbreaking move, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has elected women to its highest leadership roles for the first time in its history.

Shwetha Menon and Kukku Parameswaran have been appointed as president and general secretary, respectively. Additionally, Ansiba Hasan will serve as joint secretary, while Lakshmi Priya takes on the role of vice president.

State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian expressed his support for this significant change, emphasizing the importance of increasing opportunities for women within the film sector.

He remarked, "This is a historic moment as women are now stepping into leadership roles within AMMA for the first time."

Cherian congratulated the newly elected leaders, highlighting their competence and strength.

He noted, "This development reflects the ongoing transformation in the film industry, especially following the recent cinema conclave," and expressed optimism for the future of Malayalam cinema.

Cherian added, "This isn't to say that men have been ineffective; they have led for a long time. Now, it's time for women to take the reins."
